Salary
The salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and agreed working hours:
- Level 1 Unqualified – 20 hours: €9,287.56 per annum, plus Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)
- Level 2 Qualified – 20 hours: €9,664.86 per annum, plus Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)
- Level 1 Unqualified – 30 hours: €13,931.35 per annum, plus Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)
- Level 2 Qualified – 30 hours: €14,497.29 per annum, plus Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)
Eligibility
This vacancy is open only to UK Family Members who hold a valid Status Stamp permitting employment.

About the Role
The Learning Support Assistant will promote inclusion within a mainstream school and support pupils with special educational, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
The main responsibility of the role is to provide one-to-one or enhanced-ratio support to a child with special educational needs. This may include pupils with:
- Autism
- Dyslexia
- ADHD
- Global developmental delay
- Speech and communication difficulties
- Sensory or physical needs
- Challenging behaviour
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Headteacher, SENDCo, senior leaders and teaching staff to support the delivery of high-quality learning and teaching.
The Learning Support Assistant will also help pupils participate fully in the academic and social activities of the school and become more independent learners.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Supporting Pupils
- Provide learning support in a one-to-one or enhanced-ratio setting.
- Develop an understanding of the individual needs of the pupil.
- Work closely with the Class Teacher, SENDCo and external agencies.
- Help pupils access the full range of learning activities inside and outside the classroom.
- Prepare or adapt learning materials, including worksheets, games, visual prompts and communication resources.
- Create or modify resources following guidance from the Class Teacher, SENDCo, Educational Psychologist or other professionals.
- Help maintain an inclusive learning environment throughout the school.
- Provide positive reinforcement, praise and rewards in accordance with the pupil’s Individual Support Plan and school policies.
- Support pupils’ participation in small-group activities and interaction with their peers.
- Provide appropriate emotional and physical support where required.
- Support pupils who display challenging behaviour, in accordance with support plans and risk assessments.
- Supervise pupils and help ensure their safety.
- Support pupils’ social, personal and emotional development.
Supporting the Class Teacher and SENDCo
- Work as part of the school team to support the pupil’s wellbeing, personal development and learning opportunities.
- Share appropriate information with staff, parents, carers and external agencies in accordance with school policies.
- Assist in developing pupil support plans, including Individual Support Plans.
- Maintain pupil records as requested.
- Participate in the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
- Provide feedback to the Class Teacher, SENDCo and relevant external agencies regarding the pupil’s progress and difficulties.
- Implement the targets included in the pupil’s Individual Support Plan.
Supporting the School
- Help strengthen communication between the pupil’s home and the school.
- Follow all school policies and procedures.
- Comply with safeguarding, child-protection, confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
- Report safeguarding or welfare concerns to the appropriate person.
- Understand relevant guidelines relating to disability discrimination and special educational needs.
- Comply with health and safety requirements.
- Contribute to the overall values, work and objectives of the school.
- Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
- Support and respect the work of other professionals.
- Participate in relevant training, meetings and professional-development activities.
- Promote equal opportunities and discourage discriminatory practices.
Essential Requirements
Candidates must:
- Hold GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above, or an equivalent qualification.
- Be able to communicate fluently and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Have proven experience of successfully working with children with special educational needs.
- Understand the different social, cultural and physical needs of pupils.
- Be able to build positive relationships with children and adults.
- Be able to understand lessons quickly and respond appropriately to pupils’ questions.
- Have a good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Be familiar with electronic filing practices.
- Understand safeguarding responsibilities relating to children and vulnerable adults.
- Understand the importance of protecting the personal information of children and vulnerable adults.
- Hold a full driving licence.
- Be prepared to drive an authorised vehicle across the Western and Eastern Sovereign Base Areas and, occasionally, within the Republic of Cyprus.
- Undergo and successfully pass the required security and police checks.
- Provide professional references.
- Provide a complete employment history and explain any gaps in employment.
- Complete the required self-declaration relating to criminal convictions.
Successful candidates may also be required to provide:
- A clean criminal record certificate
- A sex offenders certificate
- Criminal-record documentation from countries in which they have lived during the previous five years
- An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, where applicable
Social-media checks may also be conducted as part of the safer-recruitment process.
Desirable Qualifications
- First Aid training
- NVQ/STL Level 3 qualification or equivalent
