AI Engineer
Location: Larnaca, Cyprus
Short job description:
IANUS is looking for a motivated AI Engineer who is interested in participating in European Research projects and building practical AI-enabled software solutions. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience using modern AI tools, understand different AI models and workflows, and be able to apply AI in real products or prototypes. The role does not require someone who has built large foundation models from scratch, but candidates should understand how to use, evaluate, and integrate AI models responsibly, including RAG, prompt engineering, AI agents, fine-tuning concepts, and AI-assisted development workflows.
Job Role & Key Responsibilities
As an AI Engineer in our team, you will support the design, development, and integration of AI-driven solutions for European and National research projects in the fields of defence, security, cybersecurity, smart governance, and operational resilience:
· Develop and integrate AI features into web platforms, dashboards, and operational tools.
· Work with LLMs, AI APIs, open-source models, and agentic workflows.
· Design and implement RAG pipelines using documents, project data, or knowledge bases.
· Support prompt engineering, model evaluation, testing, and AI output improvement.
· Use modern AI coding assistants and automation tools responsibly.
· Collaborate with developers, project managers, and research partners.
Job Requirements
· University degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field is required. M.Sc. and/or Ph.D. degree is a plus.
· Practical experience with AI models, LLMs, AI APIs, or AI-enabled applications.
· Good understanding of prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, AI agents, and model evaluation.
· Experience with Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript. Backend or full-stack knowledge is an advantage.
· Understanding of fine-tuning, model training, or dataset preparation is a strong advantage, but not mandatory.
· Ability to use AI coding assistants effectively while reviewing and testing the produced code.
· Proficiency level in English.
· Availability to travel for partner meetings and events abroad.
Employment Terms
The position is on a contract basis. Initially, a three-year contract will be offered, which is renewable based on performance for multiple years and beyond the scope of the assigned project(s). The gross monthly salary is expected to be in the range of EUR 2,300 - EUR 2,500, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The executive period of employment begins as of the effective date and shall continue thereafter for a period of three (3) years. If mutually agreed between IANUS Technologies Management Team and the Contractor, the contract may be renewed under the same terms and conditions.
