On behalf of our client, a well-established accounting, audit and advisory firm based in Latsia, Nicosia, we are seeking to recruit a motivated Junior Accountant to join its growing accounting team.
The firm provides accounting, audit, tax, VAT, payroll and business advisory services to a diverse portfolio of local and international clients. Role Overview
The Junior Accountant will support the accounting team with bookkeeping, account reconciliations, financial-record maintenance and routine statutory and tax-compliance work.
Working under the guidance of senior accountants and management, the successful candidate will receive practical exposure to client accounting portfolios, VAT and VIES submissions, trial-balance preparation and financial reporting.
The role is suitable for a recent graduate, an individual currently pursuing accounting studies or a junior professional with up to two years of relevant experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records for assigned clients.
- Perform bookkeeping and record purchases, sales, receipts, payments, journals and other accounting entries.
- Review invoices, receipts, bank statements and supporting documents before processing.
- Prepare bank, supplier and customer reconciliations.
- Assist with intercompany and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain general ledgers, supporting schedules and organised accounting files.
- Assist with the preparation of trial balances, management accounts and financial reports.
- Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns and VIES declarations.
- Assist with routine tax, statutory and regulatory submissions.
- Monitor assigned deadlines and ensure that supporting documentation is collected on time.
- Communicate with clients to request accounting records, clarify transactions and follow up on missing information.
- Prepare customer and supplier statements when required.
- Support senior accountants with the preparation of financial statements and audit documentation.
- Use accounting software, Microsoft Excel and electronic filing systems effectively.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client and company information.
- Escalate missing documents, discrepancies, unusual transactions or accounting errors to the supervising accountant.
- Assist the accounting, audit, tax and payroll teams with relevant information and documentation.
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties related to the position.
Requirements
- University degree, diploma or ongoing studies in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or another related discipline.
- Between zero and two years of relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience.
- Basic understanding of bookkeeping, double-entry accounting and account reconciliations.
- Basic knowledge of financial statements and accounting principles.
- Familiarity with VAT, VIES and Cyprus accounting requirements will be considered an advantage.
- Previous experience within an accounting or audit firm will be considered an advantage.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Familiarity with accounting software will be considered an advantage.
- Very good command of Greek and English, both written and spoken.
- Strong numerical ability and attention to detail.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain accurate records.
- Professional attitude, reliability and respect for confidentiality.
- Positive attitude and genuine willingness to learn and develop.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
