ABOUT THE JOB
This is a great opportunity for an inexperienced Practitioner, who wants to take on a new
challenge in order to move forward. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated
Practitioner who can bring unique skills and innovation to our provision. Children thrive from a
base of loving and secure relationships. This is normally provided by a child’s parents, but it can
also be provided by our WAC team. This role is a key role in our provision and will support
children across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The post holder(s) will become trusted
familiar figure(s) working with the children after school. We don’t settle for people who can just
do the job, we are looking for people that go beyond that and always push us to be better today
than yesterday. We are therefore looking to recruit a friendly, individual or individuals, who will

Eligibility - Are you eligible to apply?

Essential & Desirable Criteria for the Role
Important Note: Details on the role can be found on the Job Description which is at the end of
this document. These criteria are part of the assessment criteria and will influence the decision

Essential
1. An understanding of, and a commitment in working to the principles of Equality of
Opportunity and how to support children with learning difficulties and disabilities in
accordance with statutory requirements.
2. Paediatric First Aid or undertake Paediatric First Aid training once recruited into the role.
3. Understanding of child development and how to support children through play.
4. Knowledge and some developing understanding of implementing good quality learning
opportunities.
5. You must undergo and pass as security & police check. If you are found successful,
you will be requested to provide a Clean Criminal Record and a Sex Offenders
Certificate issued by the Republic of Cyprus. For UKFMs that will be found successful
on this advert and who have lived on island for longer than 18 months, will be requested
to provide a Clean Criminal Record and a Sex Offenders Certificate issued by the
Republic of Cyprus.

6. All candidates who have lived in the UK, must undergo and pass an Enhanced
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

case basis and considering that the role will be working with children and vulnerable
adults.
13. Awareness of Data Protection practices and importance to protect the personal
information of children and vulnerable adults.
Desirable
1. Full and Relevant Nationally Accredited Level 2 qualifications, for example Children’s
Care, Learning and Development; Supporting Teaching and Learning. You may
already hold Level 3 such equivalent qualifications and you also may wish to return
back to childcare having completed the qualification in the past.
2. A valid UK driving license.

Main duties and responsibilities
• To be vigilant and protect children from harm and abuse, reporting any concerns
immediately – in accordance with child protection and whistleblowing policies
• Under direction of the Room Leader/WAC Practitioners carry out health and safety
checks as required to ensure environment is tidy, safe, clean and secure for children,
staff, parents/carers and visitors
• To read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and
the safe running of the facility.
• Support the Room Leader/ WAC Practitioners to deliver and scaffold the EYFS, KS1
and KS2 curriculums and any other appropriate guidance for children in accordance with
statutory policy and guidelines.
• Support the Room Leader/ WAC Practitioners to ensure that the children engage in
activities that develop their potential, that creativity is fostered within their learning

environment, and that they develop their interests and engage in positive social
interaction.
• Set up activities and games for children to play together in WAC both indoors and
outdoors.
• Help create an environment that nurtures children’s curiosity to question why things
happen and to develop the confidence to problem-solve for themselves and in
collaboration with their peers and the adults who work with them.
• Cover for other staff as appropriate and as directed by your Manager/Headteacher,
especially given that unforeseen situations can occur when caring for children and
recognising that the child’s welfare is paramount.
• Provide each child with continuity of care throughout their time at the WAC Club, in
partnership with their parent/carers: -
o Developing a loving and secure relationship with each child.
o Help each child to become familiar with and confident in the facility.
o Look after each child’s care and welfare needs.
o Build trusted relationships with each child’s parents, ensuring there are regular
opportunities to share information on the child’s development at home and in the
facility.
• Identify children who may have additional needs and report your concerns to the
Manager/Headteacher and Lead SENCO to enable them to organise and/or provide
appropriate support
• To work across the whole learning environment – indoors and out. The outdoor
environment is a very important aspect of the WAC’s ethos and is used in all weather
conditions.
• Supervise children at snack and mealtimes and promote healthy eating while developing
good eating and table habits. Ensuring that snack and meal times are a pleasant social
experience.
• Be supportive and welcoming to parents, recognising the expert knowledge they have of
their child and encourage and value their involvement.
• To attend reasonable out-of-working-hours activities, including training, staff meetings,
parent’s evenings and special events.
• To attend and help organise events arranged for the children and to benefit the children,
families and WAC Club as a whole.
• To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or
other staff that is acquired as part of the job.
• To undertake any other aspects of work according to need. This job description is
