Main duties:
- Monitor the availability, condition and performance of business-critical applications, networks, databases and servers across on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
- Maintain 24/7 monitoring with tools such as SolarWinds, Cacti, Zabbix, Pingplotter, IsItUp, Networkbench and Guacamole, analysing live data for emerging problems.
- Respond to alerts, provide Tier 1 diagnosis, coordinate resolver teams and open or escalate ISP and service-provider tickets.
- Prepare chronological incident and resolution reports and maintain accurate action logs.
- Support provisioning, configuration and health checks of monitoring systems and improve coverage and thresholds.
- Coordinate with Service Desk, Infrastructure, Security and Incident Management on outage communications and handovers.
- Contribute to post-incident reviews, root-cause analysis and measures that reduce recurring failures.
- Maintain monitoring guides, operational documentation and escalation procedures and share knowledge with colleagues.
Requirements:
- IT, Computer Science or related degree, or equivalent experience.
- At least three years in NOC, systems or network analysis/engineering, monitoring large networks, systems or servers.
- Strong networking knowledge covering protocols, the OSI model, switching and internet routing.
- Hands-on monitoring-tool experience, including SolarWinds, Cacti, Zabbix, Pingplotter or IsItUp.
- Experience with highly available VMware clusters.
- Troubleshooting experience with Cisco routers and switches, F5 BIG-IP, Palo Alto firewalls or comparable appliances.
- Understanding of website operations, WAN, DNS, SSL certificates and URLs.
- Good documentation and written and verbal communication skills.
- Availability for 24/7 shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Microsoft or Cisco qualifications such as CCNA or MCITP are advantageous.
- F5, Palo Alto or Fortinet experience is advantageous.
- Bash, Python or PowerShell automation and scripting are advantageous.
- ITIL, hybrid cloud/on-premise infrastructure and B2B/B2C operations experience are advantageous.
